About Delilah

From her dance beginnings around age 3 twirling her baton and pretending to be in a circus parade, Delilah has loved to dance. As a child she dreamed of dance lessons and gymnastics, but it seemed fate had other plans. When she was about 15, she heard belly dance music for the first time. It was so familiar and compelling that she just started bellydancing, though she had never even heard of bellydance or had a single lesson! Instantly she was hooked! She never stopped dancing, although at first she had to dance in secret because of her family's beliefs. After she left home, she started dancing at parties and get-togethers with friends. People often told her, "you could make money doing that", but she never really thought of it as a business. After a while, this idea took root, and she did some research on professional bellydance. She was delighted to find that there were, indeed, plenty of opportunities to make a living as a bellydancer! In may of 2002 she performed in her first belly dance convention, and she went on to establish a successful career as a soloist in Montgomery, AL. As her daughter, Nefabit grew older they started performing together, forming the foundation of what is now the Mystik Dream Dance Company. Her goals aside from furthering the troupe are to create an innovative martial-dance fusion for men and to empower men and women alike through the magic of dance.
